Shri B. Masthan Rao, the founding chairman and Managing Director of BMR group of Industries is a man of humble beginnings since 1991. In 1998, He was awarded the Doctorate degree in Aquaculture by the International University of contemporary studies for his extraordinary contribution in the field of aquaculture.
His contribution in the introduction of SPF vannamei in the country during 2004-2009, has earned him the title “Father of Vannamei Farming in India”.
In 2014, BMR group of Industries was awarded the Best Hatchery award and also the largest supplier of shrimp seed in the country by MPEDA.
In 2017, Dr. Rao was awarded the “Indian of the Year” award in recognition of his achievements that have contributed towards building the reputation of our country.
In 2022, Dr. Rao became the Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and is presently member in two of the important committees – Committee on Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Food processing and Committee for the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
OUR HISTORY
BMR group of Industries is a vertically integrated group of companies that provides end to end solution to Shrimp farmers with highest degree of transparency and honesty. The first of these companies was started in 1991, as a shrimp farm culturing Indian giant tiger shrimp, Penaeus monodon, at Iskapalli in Andhra Pradesh followed with the establishment of tiger shrimp hatchery in Nellore in 1993. In the following years, more than 12 shrimp hatcheries were initiated by the Group.
Because of the continued disease problem for tiger shrimp, in 2004, BMR group initiated a pilot project of importing, Specific Pathogen Free Pacific White legged shrimp, Litopenaeus vannamei. In 2009, Based on the success of vannamei farming in the Pilot programme, Government of India introduced vannamei for commercial culture in the country.
In 2014, BMR Group established a shrimp processing and export facility in Andhra Pradesh. In 2013, Mr. Manoj Beeda, son of Dr. B. Masthan Rao, initiated a new firm for overseas shrimp marketing – “Claswin Seafood LLC” in New Jersey, USA. Later in 2021, Mr. Manoj established a domestic meat market – ISKAPO’S FRESH CHOPS, in Chennai with retail stores and home delivery hubs.
Further in 2016, the first shrimp feed plant was established followed by a second feed plant in 2018.
In 2016, BMR Group was permitted by the Government of India for the establishment of Broodstock Multiplication centre for SPF vannamei in collaboration with Blue Genetics, Mexico, a subsidiary of Group Grimaud, France and the first BMC of vannamei in private sector was established in 2019 at Kavali, Andhra Pradesh.

Profile of Beeda Masthan Rao Trust
Dr. Beeda Masthan Rao is a very active social worker. He started ‘BMR Charitable Trust’, operating through its own Group funds serving more than about 3 lakhs population in Nellore District, both in rural and urban areas. Its activities cover health, education, empowerment of women, skills development, strengthening social welfare hostels, housing, supply of safe drinking water, sports and entrepreneurship development trainings etc. He provided employment to 6000 youth in his Group leading to their comfortable and secured life, improving their living standards and social status, paving way to a better tomorrow for them.
